Law enforcement

Law enforcement authorities in the EU must respect and enforce European law by monitoring compliance and, if necessary, taking legal action. In carrying out their work, they often need to process personal data.
Due to the sensitive nature of the activities undertaken by police and judicial authorities,  safeguards are essential to prevent breaches and unauthorised disclosures of personal data.
To support this, the EDPB issues guidance ensuring that such data processing  respects fundamental rights and complies with EU data protection law, in particular the Law Enforcement Directive (LED).
