Learning about privacy through play

Tzimanious is an interactive board game developed as part of the EU-funded ‘byDefault’ project, coordinated by the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (HDPA). It helps children explore personal information, privacy and data protection through game-based learning and augmented reality (AR).

The game combines a physical board, pawns and cards with digital content accessed through the ARTutor app. Designed for 2–6 players or teams, it takes players through eight stations where they answer questions and discuss scenarios about personal information and online safety. The aim is to collect as many diamonds as possible while learning to make informed decisions about privacy in everyday digital life.

The game also offers teachers an engaging way to introduce data protection topics and encourage children to think critically about their online behaviour and the information they share.

How to play

You will need:

  • Printable game materials: Download and print the game board, cards and score sheets, available in A3 and A4 formats.
  • Game instructions: Read the game rules (PDF) before playing.
  • A mobile device with the ARTutor app: Download it from Google Play or the Apple App Store to access the augmented reality content.

Please note that the English version includes only two scenarios and questions per station, while the full Greek version offers more variety.
