Real-life lessons for a safer digital world

DuBestemmer is an educational website developed by Norway’s Data Protection Authority and Directorate for Education and Training. It gives students, teachers and parents practical resources to learn about privacy and digital judgement.

The website is divided into four main topics, with content adapted to different age groups. For younger students, these cover privacy, everyday digital life, unwanted online experiences and source criticism. For older students, the focus is on privacy, social media, unwanted online experiences and digital footprints.

Each topic includes short films, facts, real-life stories and activities that encourage students to reflect on their online behaviour and discuss situations they may encounter in everyday life. The website also has a dedicated teacher’s guide, with lesson suggestions, background information and discussion questions to help bring the topics into the classroom. Parents can find additional resources to help them talk to young people about their digital lives.

The material makes subjects such as personal data, sharing images, online behaviour and evaluating information easier to understand, giving young people the tools to make informed choices and take greater control of their digital lives.
