Children on internet: to publish or not to publish?
Being smart about posting pictures
The Polish Data Protection Authority (UODO), together with the Orange Foundation, has published a handbook to support adults in ensuring that children's images are better protected online. The handbook helps to reflect and make informed decisions about posting children's images online. It is useful for parents and those working in organisations and institutions whose task is to care for the welfare and safety of children.
The publication deals with issues such as:
• sharenting
• troll parenting
• cyberbullying
• misuse of content involving children for criminal (including sexual) purposes
• unintentional disclosure of information
• using children's images for profit and commercial purposes
• not treating children subjectively
• violation of dignity
Further resources
Three additional publications offer practical guidance on protecting children’s images online, with advice tailored to educational institutions, NGOs and sports clubs.
