Det behövs tydliga och starka dataskyddsregler i vår digitala tidsålder, där information hela tiden delas, samlas in och behandlas. Dessa säkerställer att enskilda personer bibehåller kontrollen över sina personuppgifter och skyddar sin personliga frihet, självständighet och yttrandefrihet. Dataskyddsregler är också väsentliga för att förhindra missbruk, obehörig åtkomst, identitetsstöld och manipulation. Effektiva dataskyddsåtgärder skapar förtroende för onlinetjänster.
